About

Asylum Seeker Support

CatholicCare, Jesuit Social Services and MacKillop Family Services  work in a partnership supporting asylum seekers who are living in the community. As Catholic organisations we are extremely concerned about the tone of the public policy debate on  asylum seekers. We also see at first hand the seriously negative effects of extended detention on asylum seekers, in particular children. We have made a public statement which has been endorsed by seventy other Catholic Organisations. If you would like to view the statement and sign a petition in support of it you can do so easily through the website petition at asylum seeker petition You may also wish to pass this invitation on to others within your networks

We are also supporters of the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project http://basp.org.au/

Walk for Justice for Refugees
Palm Sunday – 20 March

On Palm Sunday, the Asylum Seeker and Refugee Support Group joined thousands of people who took to the streets of Melbourne as part of an international peace walk seeking justice for refugees. The ‘Palm Sunday Walk for Justice’ was an interfaith, international and cross-political event.

A prayer service in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers was held at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne prior to the walk organised by the Melbourne Catholic Migrant & Refugee Office and the Office for Justice & Peace.
