Catechists

About

Our Parish Catechists are involved in the preparation and presentation of school aged children for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation within the Parish Sacrament Program.  Catechists conduct programs for those children who attend local schools with preparation for students at OLGC Primary School occurs within the school’s Religious Education Program. Once the preparation stage has been completed, these young people are presented for the sacrament together as one group.

Association

Catechists are part of the Parish Sacrament Program that guides young parishioners through their journey of Christian initiation into the Church following on from their Baptism.

How to Join

Catechists conduct classes for a small group of students on a weekly basis over a six week period prior to the celebration of each sacrament.  This is a voluntary position and Catechists are asked to assist with one Sacrament Program throughout the year. Ideally Catechists will have experience in teaching religious education in a Catholic school or be interested in attending a Catechist course offered by the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.  Catechists are well supported and are provided with a program framework and resource materials.

Fundamental to this role is the commitment to faith education and the recognition of the importance of the sacraments in our Catholic tradition. If you would like to find out more about this role, please contact Sharon Freeman on 9816 9291 or at Sharon.Freeman@cam.org.au. Catechists require a Working with Children (WWC) Check.
